Do not allow false seeds to be planted in your garden.

Who else here has dealt with lots of unsolicited advice or people trying to project their insecurities onto you?

This has been happening to me A LOT while pregnant, so I figured I would share my thoughts...

Sometimes it is people you can distance yourself from, coworkers, acquaintances, or even “friends” (and yes I use that term loosely). Those types of people it is actually sort of easy to do that with, you just eliminate contact, or minimize it.

Yes, truncating a friendship with someone who does not act like a friend is not a mean thing to do, put yourself first for a change. If you have to question whether someone is truly happy for you and your accomplishments, chances are they are not a friend. A perfect example is someone who always throws sarcastic remarks your way and you have to think for a second if they are really joking.

Now onto family... what do you do when family members give you unsolicited advice? Sometimes people just want to be heard in all honesty — if that is the case just thank them for the advice and move on. However what do you do when they get malicious, sarcastic or mean? Well you agree with them.

Yes, you heard me. You agree with them.

Agreeing with them truncates any further argument. Does it sound crazy? You bet it does, but it works. Shuts them right up. And it makes that bullshit easier to roll off your skin because you are simply agreeing to keep them quiet.

If you agree with them instead of argue (forget about your ego for a second and this will make complete sense), they have nothing further to say or any more ammunition to use against you because you are not giving them any ammunition (aka arguments). Make sense?

Plus, if they end up putting you down some more after agreeing — that just shows their character. Why would you want to value an opinion from someone who wants to put you down anyway?

The moral of this lengthy post is this — DO NOT LET PEOPLE PLANT FALSE SEEDS IN YOUR HEAD. Stay strong my friends.
